I was never a feminist artist, and perhaps avoided to be one. The subconscious imitation of the sexually oppressed generations of my grandmother and mother urges me to address the many generations of oppressed women in China. The repercussion of sex shaming, gender roles and the phenomena of female virginity as currency in China has deeply influenced my mother’s generation, the many generations before and now continues to shadow on the generation of young women in China. Digging into my mothers past, unraveling her deepest fears and angers, I am hoping for more then a voice, but to unbind the bodies and release the life within.
