The recent exploration of my sexuality leads to the epiphany and confession of my active avoidance to the subject. The subconscious imitation of the sexually oppressed generations of my grandmother and mother is a repercussion of the objectification of women in China including sex shaming and gender roles. Displaying my birth control medications in a cash box, casting my partner’s penis with traditional Chinese sandalwood soap, my vagina in a makeup mirror, I publicly examine of My Personal Hygiene—For Internal Cleansing to reclaim control of my own body, sexual freedom and to comment on the phenomena of female virginity as currency in China.
